Jessica Rabbit

I made this practice cake this week, just because I wanted to play with my cricut machine.

At 1st it gave me a really hard time. I was fighting with the cricut all weekend. Everything I tried to cut kept ripping. It wasn't making the nice clean cuts it used to.

I was ready to pull my hair out and throw the machine against the wall.

When my boyfriend suggested I change the blade.

Why didn't I think of that?! As soon as I put in the replacement blades it cut perfectly. :)

I just love the way it turned out. Its sexy, but elegant.

  4. just found your blog through cake central! I'm researching cricut machines now. I HAVE to have one for caking. Do you use a regular model or is it the new one specifically for cakes? Your cakes are great BTW. Stop by my blog sometime. http://mysugarshack.blogspot.com/

  9. I found the image on a google search. I had to edit it a bit. I broke apart the image in four equal piece so it would fit on all four tiers.

I used SCAL to cut. :)

  10. Kayla, I am still new to the Cricut world. So once you have it broken to 4 pieces you simply layer them on top of one another? Your videos will help! :-)

  12. Can anyone using the cricut E for cakes please help and let me know if I simply need to use a deep blade and what size and pressure I should use. Really would appreciate it as I am getting impatient waiting for the cakes one.

  15. ok so now you have my head spinning...I was just about to order the cake from hsn when I stumbled upon your blog........so I guess the big deal is the oooey gooey stuff getting into the "e" parts...do you have any problems with that or do you have a way that you are covering yours I am wanting to do cakes and if I can use my "e" than I'm saving my money for other things.....Jodi Barber

  16. I got the expression before the cricut cake came out.

I don't have any problems with my expression getting dirty. I have a seperate mat and blade for gumpaste and a mat and blade for paper.

I'm definalty not gonna pay $300 for a new machine when I can make it work with my cricut expression.

With the cricut cake you can cut thicker gumpaste. With the expression I have to roll out gumpaste super thin.

If your going to make alot of cakes than I would go with the cricut cake. But if you dont make that many cakes and you already have the expression than you could make it work.

  17. Hello,

I am just now doing the research on the Cricut Cake. And I understand that you can buy cartridges with different designs, but this one seems to be custom. So, my questions is... is it possible to design your own art? Company logos, etc.? Any help will be appreciated. Debi

  18. To make custom images you have to use a seperate program like surecutsalot or makethecut. You can make svgs using inkscape of find them online for free.

  20. I see your boyfriend bought you a cricut cake, but I was wondering how it compares to the Cricut Expression when using it for thin gumpaste.... a few things I've read online say that you won't get clean edges in the E.... but your cakes look great... so I'm wondering, is it a LOT of extra trimming and cleaning up when you use the E, or as long as you have a new blade, you're good to go>? Thanks! You do beautiful work!!

  21. Honestly the Expression works just as good as the Cake does :) As long as you roll it out thin enough it cuts perfect.
