Shark cake, Suitcase cake, and a minor freak out.

Hi Everyone

I haven't posted any new cakes in a while. My life has become crazy busy. I'm getting married in February so I've been planning and trying to come up with alot of creative ideas for my wedding. I'm also leaving to Europe in a week to visit my fiance and his family so I have alot of packing to do. Did I also mention that I'm moving to Belgium after our wedding?! I'm still freaking out about that.

Anyway ignore my mini panic attack and lets talk about cake. My aunt called me and asked me to make a shark cake for my cousins birthday. Since my blog is semi new, and only has a few pictures, I also wanted to show you the cake I made last year for her birthday.

She loves to travel, and has been all over the world. So I made her a suitcase cake with a cute little purse.

Now onto Christian's cake.

The shark is made out of rice krispie treats mixed with modeling chocolate. Its chocolate cake with dulce de leche and strawberry filling. I covered the cake board with brown sugar and white granulated sugar to look like sand.

It was delicious and he loved the cake. :)

Viviana's Wedding Cake

Last month a really old friend of mine got married. I was really happy when she asked me to make her cake. I wasn't able to post a picture before, cause I'm a dork and I forgot my camera at home.

But I finally got a nice picture to show you guys.

It was a pretty easy design. She's such a vibrant person I was kinda surprised she wanted something so simple.

It's 6in, 9in, and 12in cake. The first two tiers are vanilla cake filled with buttercream. The last tier is also vanilla cake but its filled with dulce de leche.

It's covered in ivory fondant and airbrushed with some superpearl.

Lorraine's Birthday Cake

It was my little sisters birthday last week. She was turning 23. I always try to make a cake that shows her personality or her favorite hobby at the time. Two years ago I made her this Flip Flops cake since we live in south fl and she loves going to the beach.

She's in Cosmetology school right now, so this year I made her a 3D blow dryer.

It's Chocolate cake with Dulce De Leche filling. Iced in Swiss Meringue Buttercream.(My new favorite buttercream, it's not too sweet like most powdered sugar buttercreams.)And covered in Satin Ice black fondant. I always buy precolored black and red fondant. Its really hard to get a true black or red when you color it yourself.

I used my Cricut Cake to cut out the "Happy Birthday" (Did I mention my boyfriend surprised me with a new Cricut Cake ?! He's AWESOME!)

I used the Birthday Cakes cart. The Plain Phrase creative feature key on page 73.

I'm extremely happy with way it came out. She loved it and so did all of her friends.

Baby Shower Gifts

I made a few gifts for my cousins baby shower. They are having their first baby and I wanted to make them something special.

I made them a small diaper cake. with a newborn, you can never have enough diapers. I also made them a pair of baby booties. I got the pattern from Make It and Love It. The instructions were really easy to follow.

I also made a matching dress. It looks alot bigger in the picture, but its actually really tiny. I got the idea from Threadbanger.

Thomas the Train Cake

So I ended up making a simple chocolate cake for my birthday, I didn't even decorate it really. I just covered the cake in icing and chocolate ganache. I didn't have time to go all out.

My cousin called me last minute and she wanted a Thomas the Train cake for her son's 3rd birthday. Normally I would have said no since it was such short notice. But I felt bad, I'm such a wuss. I have a hard time saying no, especially to family. Her son is allergic to dairy and eggs so she needed a vegan cake. I knew if I didn't make the cake for him, he wasn't going to get any cake at his birthday party. And I couldn't let that happen.

I decided to try a new recipe I found here.

I wasn't able to taste the cake since I'm allergic to soy but my cousin said it was "Delicious!" :)

Anyway here's a picture of the cake.

It was vegan vanilla cake with guava fruit filling. I cut out Thomas with SCAL. I used the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge for the grass. For the lettering I used the FMM Funky Alphabet Tappits.

I think it came out cute, even though I didn't have that much time.

Happy Birthday to Me! :)

Its my birthday in three days! I'm going to be 24, I feel so old. Lol.

Anyway of course I'm going to make my own birthday cake.

If I manage to steal my sister for a few hours, I'll take some cakes basics videos to show you how I make my cakes.

I still haven't decided what kind of cake I'm going to make. I just know it has to be chocolate.

Normally I have all these ideas of what I can possibly make. I use my birthday to experiment with cake designs. That way if it comes out ugly, I'm not too disappointed.

But this time I have no idea :(

I bought some new PME Daisy cutters so I'll have to incorporate that somehow.

Wish me luck.

Jessica Rabbit

I made this practice cake this week, just because I wanted to play with my cricut machine.

At 1st it gave me a really hard time. I was fighting with the cricut all weekend. Everything I tried to cut kept ripping. It wasn't making the nice clean cuts it used to.

I was ready to pull my hair out and throw the machine against the wall.

When my boyfriend suggested I change the blade.

Why didn't I think of that?! As soon as I put in the replacement blades it cut perfectly. :)

I just love the way it turned out. Its sexy, but elegant.

Little Ballet Shoes

My little cousin was turning 11 this weekend so I made her a small birthday cake.

She's taking dance classes to I wanted to do something really girly.

I used the Cricut to cut out the ballet shoes, I love the way it came out.

It was chocolate cake, filled with strawberry swiss meringue buttercream, fresh strawberries and chocolate ganache. Soo Yummy!

She loved the cake so much she refused to let anyone cut it :)

Here's the cake

Since I've started useing the Cricut for cakes, I'm surprised at how fast and easy it is. I love my Cricut!

A Rose Cake

It's taken me a while to post this cake pic, mostly because it didn't come out how I wanted it to.

I made it for my grandmothers birthday two weeks ago. It was supposed to be a two tier cake with a giant rose on the side. Sort of like a Ron Ben Israel design I saw.

Unfortunately I cut to much from the bottom tier and the top tier didn't fit :(

My grandmother was happy with it, but she would be happy with anything I give her.

Here's the look I was going for.

I need more practice on my roses. I'll have to think of another excuse to make this cake. Practice makes perfect :)

Na na na na na na na na na na Batman!

So I was asked to make a Batman themed cake by a friend. I used my Cricut to cut out the logo and the skyline.

I googled the Batman logo, and used the green trace feature in SCAL to cut.

For the skyline I used the Plantin SchoolBook Cartridge. Its on page 69 and I used the shadow image.

I think it came out so cute. :)

Juicy Purse Cake

This was my 1st time using the Cricut for a cake. There was some trail and error but I finally found what worked for me.

The picture isn't the greatest quality, I promise it looked better in person.

I used Paint to help me edit a Juicy Couture logo. I didn't want all the fine tiny details, just the basic shape. I know some people use Inkscape, but I haven't figured out how to use it yet.

Than I used Sure Cuts Alot (I love that program!) to cut. I used tappits for the lettering.

I also used the Cricut to help me cut out the Shoes.

I got the template from Jacque Benson, she has an awesome shoe tutorial at
http://www.sugarteachers.blogspot.com.

1st Post

Hey

I recently got a Cricut Expression. It was a Christmas gift from my awesome boyfriend. I've been wanting a Cricut for months now, not to use it for scrap booking but to use it on CAKES.

I know that sounds weird but the Cricut cuts gum paste beautifully, and I no longer have to hand cut with and exacto knife and a template. Which saves me a lot of time and cursing.

So I thought I would share my cake and scrap booking adventures.

Enjoy :)
